Itinerary -
Day 01: Delhi - Leh
Board the morning flight to reach Leh. Arrive at Leh and transfer to hotel/guest house and take a complete rest. This relaxation is essential for becoming accustomed to the climate. Overnight stay at the hotel/guesthouse.
Day 02: Leh -Lamayuru (3 ½ hrs drive)
Today, we shall drive to Lamayuru in the morning. En route, we shall witness some of the most popular and oldest monasteries of Ladakh. On arrival at Lamayuru, we will spend time exploring ancient monasteries.
Day 03: Lamayuru – Wanla
Post breakfast we will take horse ride to Wanla. A steep route leads up to small mountain pass Prinkiti La (3750 meters) before the trail descends towards Shilla Village, which is at a distance of 3 kilometers from Wanla (3250 meters). We will set our camp up for a night here.
Day 04: Wanla - Base of Tar La Tour (4200 mts/13776 ft) 8 hrs
Today, we will follow the dusty road along to reach at a small village of Phenjilla (3410 m). From Phenjilla, we will walk on left side of the valley along a small stream for around an hour to reach at Ursi village. Overnight stay in the tent.
Day 05: Base of Tar La - Tar (4300 mts/14105 ft) via Tar La (5250 mts/17220 ft)
Our trek will be today a bit challenging as we have to ascend to Tar la (5250 m). The trail offers spectacular views from different points and the arduous trek is well rewarded with the views the mountains around. Return to the base camp might take around 3-4 hrs. Overnight stay in the base camp.
Day 06: Tar - Mang Gyu 5 hrs
Today, we shall trek from Tar to Mang Gyu. The trail passes through mountainside to a small pass. An easy descent will lead us to Man Gyu village, where there are traditional Ladakhi houses and an ancient monastery. It is believed that the monasteries of the Mang Gyu and Alchi were built on the same day.
Day 07: Mang Gyu - Alchi - Leh 2 hrs
Our last day trek will be down a beautiful narrow valley covered with rosebushes. We shall walk to reach the village of Gera, where our vehicle will be waiting to take us back to Leh. En route we shall visit famous monasteries of Alchi and Likir. Overnight stay in the hotel at Leh.
Day 08: Leh – Delhi
Take the flight for Delhi in the morning.

Best Time to Visit
The best for Lamayuru Alchi trek is between June and mid-October as the weather remains quite pleasant during this time. The average temperature ranges between 20 and 30°Cduring the day time. The month of July and August are ideal for the trek as during these months Manali-Leh and Srinagar-Leh highways also open for the private vehicles.
Where is the Lamayuru Alchi Trek
The Lamayuru Alchi Trek is situated in Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir State of India. The two monasteries are located in between Bodhkharbu and Kha-la-che, on a steep rock mountain. They lie at a distance of approximately 127 km to the west of Leh town. Where Lamayuru Monastery belongs to the Red-Hat sect of Buddhism and refuges about 150 Buddhist monks, Alchi is a lowland monastery and is amongst the oldest Gompas in Ladakh. The two monasteries conserve rich history of Buddhist period here.
How to Reach?
By Air:
Leh Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport is the main airport in Leh City. It has a number of flights that connects Leh with Delhi as well as few major cities of India.
By Road:
Leh is connected to the rest of India by two highways: NH 1D (Srinagar-Leh Highway) and Manali-Leh Highway. The Srinagar-Leh Highway passes through Kargil and Zoji-La (3505m), whereas Leh-Manali Highway passes through famed Rohtang Pass and Tanglang La (5325m). It also passes through the upland desert plateau of Rupshu whose altitude ranges from 3,660 m to 4,570 m.
